Baby Food Recipe - Healthy Bliss Balls
This baby food recipe is super popular as it is low GI, paleo, excellent for baby led weaning and perfect for the school lunchbox. Your whole family will adore these tasty and nutritious treats.
I’m a huge fan of getting adequate fats and proteins into our babies and kids, right from the very beginning. It’s important for their brain development, not only because their brains are made of fat, but because triggering spikes in blood sugar with high carb meals is inflammatory for the brain.
Bliss balls are an easy way to introduce nuts to your baby, if you haven’t yet, you can start with one type of nut and small quantities.
I won’t say any more than that, let’s cut to the chase and find out the ingredients!
Low carb bliss ball Ingredients
½ cup nut butter of your choice (we love ABC butter)
2 tbsp coconut oil
½ dessicated coconut
¼ cup chia seeds
1 tbsp stevia
1 tsp coconut flour
1 tsp cinnamon to taste
Option:
Add in cranberries or orange zest for a little extra flavour
How to make bliss balls your kids will love
Blend all ingredients together
Roll into balls and place on a plate
Refrigerate for 30 minutes, then roll in coconut or crushed nuts
Note
If you’re used to high carb/sugary bliss balls with dates in them, these may seem a bit bland. Try adding one date to the whole mix instead of the usual amount. Adding too many dates will make it a high-carbohydrate, blood sugar spiking treat, rather than a snack high in protein and healthy fats.
Coconut oil can melt at room temperature, so if the balls begin to go soft, you can put them back in the fridge. Or you might prefer them softer if your baby is still learning to bite and chew their food.
